Reasons why you should quit sugar for good

I have been preparing to write this post for months. To be exact, since the moment I, by accident, decided to quit sugar and started noticing positive changes in my body. I have not been eating sweets, cookies, cakes and any other snacks including sugar. I also do not drink ready juices, drinks and other beverages with different types of sugar, sweeteners, and so on. I eat fruit and vegetables and these are the sources of sweetness in my diet.

As it has been proven by researchers and scientists, who dealt with the influence sugar has on our bodies, this substance is more harmful than beneficial. First of all, it reduces our immunity, increases the possibility of getting sick of cancers, quickens aging processes and leads to obesity. Especially in case of the latter, the substance causes other diseases which are both dangerous to our health and wallets (medicines are very expensive!).

There have been also books on the impact of taking in too much sugar. One of them is “Sugar Crush. How to reduce inflammation, reverse nerve damage and reclaim good health” by Richard Jacoby and  Raquel Baldelomar. A post recommending this one will definitely appear on this blog!

Except for a number of damages sugar causes to our bodies (the above list does not include such health problems as: kidney damage, increase of the cholesterol level in blood and the risk of having a heart attack, loose of hair, tooth decay), it has its impact on our brain as well. If has been proven that excessive sugar intake may be the cause of depression. It may be also in favor of  schizophrenia, vertigo and it is addictive… Should I give you more arguments to convince you that life without sugar is healthier?

I am going to describe how cutting down has improved my life.

  •       I have always had skin problems and I remember that with my friend we always joked that we would be the only elderly ladies in the world who would treat acne 😃 Korean beauty treatments did not help and taking some facials at beautician`s were enough for 3 weeks. After that, my skin was going mad again… But the best solution was to quit sugar. After 2 months of my rehab, my skin started looking really well, and all the “surprises” on my face were gone too! Of course, it is impossible to get rid of them completely, but at least the disappear faster.

  •     At the moment my weight is around 62 kg, but in the past I was heavier. I work long hours and a couple of months ago I was eating rubbish: chocolate bars, sweet rolls and other products which I could get access to fast. As a result, my weight last October turned out to be 72 kg and that was the effect I achieved only because I was training in a gym regularly! I was doing exercises and… gaining weight. I have to tell you that there were no results of my trainings visible then. Until I stopped eating sugar! Within first month, I managed to lose 3.5 kg and I finally got my muscles visible. Now, I am loosing kilograms slower, but I think the pace is enough (around 1 kg a month). I have not reduced the amount of calories, nor the size of my meals. I have just cut down sugar.
  •    For the first time since I remember I am not sick in spring. Although I spend lots of time outside home due to my work where I have to commute regardless the weather.
  •   The taste of food is different. Now, I can recognize the taste of spices more easily. Interestingly, I react more to sweet taste – bananas, pears and grapes are now even too sweet. I do not feel the need of adding sugar to fruit tea any more. In contrary, I have had to resign from some of the flavors as they appear too sweet, without sugar added.

  •   I am not hungry all the time and thanks to that last Easter was the first holiday I did not gain weight. I just eat standard breakfast, dinner and supper. And that is it!

For sure, you may expect more post on sugar on this blog. I am going to write also on how to reduce the amounts of this substance in everyday diet and how to recognize health snacks! Enjoy!

Kalerosse: a new vegie

Have you heard about this new vegetable called kalerosse? It looks like a small cabbage and has unique flavour. It tastes of brussels spouts and kale. As it is described on producer`s website: "Kalerosse ™ is a brand new vegetable that combines sweetness and nutty flavours. It looks like a small cabbage with green wavy leaves and purple streaks. The inspiration for creating Kalerosse ™ was the desire to develop a vegetable similar to kale and brussels sprouts that would be versatile, easy to cook and attractive in appearance. The natural crossing of kale with brussels sprouts seemed obvious to us, because both of these plants come from the species Brassica oleracea , which also includes cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli. Kalerosse ™ does not only taste good, it is also very healthy. At just 100g, Kalerosse ™ contains twice as much vitamin B6 (which helps to store energy from food) and twice as much vitamin C than regular brussels sprouts." (source: http://kaleross
